With a two-night stand on the North Shore, The Who’s longtime vocalist paired with a formidable band that included Simon Townsend (brother of Pete), and the Ravinia Festival Orchestra. With an expansive Ravinia stage, Daltrey’s production used up every square inch in the front of the house.

From the moment Tommy‘s “Overture” kicked off, one could tell immediately how much impact the orchestra was going to affect the evening’s grand performance. Daltrey joined the musicians to kick off “It’s a Boy/1921,” and added other 1968 double album classics including “Pinball Wizard” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”.

As expected at most Who shows, Daltrey closed out the night with two Who classics, “Who Are You” and “Baba O’Riley” pumping just as much excitement as if Pete was by his side. Closing out the night with a solo track “Always Heading Home,” he confessed his deep love and appreciation for Chicago.
