Spring Awakening Festival interviews

| June 20, 2012

Given the city’s roots in the electronic music movement, it’s only fitting that the Spring Awakening Music festival, a celebration of all things EDM, featured a healthy showing of Chicago talent. Illinois Entertainer’s Jaime de’Medici was onsite at the two-day festival, interviewing Chicago artists for the ChicagoVerseUniteD podcast series on his Dynasty Podcasts Network.

First, veteran DJ Tommie Sunshine reflects on Chicago’s electronic music scene over the last two decades, as well as weighing in on the big business of EDM. Then, Indiana transplant DJ Phenom examines the Midwest party scene and the Chicago nightlife community. Mikul Wing, Louis Kha, and Graham Geren of Midnight Conspiracy share about their new deals with Ultra and AM Only, while Derek Berry and Rick Carrico of Team Bayside High discuss their upcoming EP, set for release through Teenage Riot. Longtime Chicago staple Willy Joy delves into his beginnings in the DJ culture, and up-and-comers Jahan, Yasmine, and Rain Man of Krewella talk about their new Play Hard EP and their four-year-long sudden rise. Stream or download those podcasts from the set.
