Lovers Lane
In The Flesh

One year of CHIRPing

We suppose with the way the big sports leagues trample on Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’s not such a sin to offer you something to do on your day off, Monday.

After all, you’re gonna be worn out from all the football and basketball and hockey this weekend, and will need something remotely cultural to set you right. Tonight, actually, kicks off the festivities for the Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP)’s first anniversary shenanigans with a dance party at Beauty Bar east of Ashland on Chicago Ave (the old Sonotheque).

The non-profit, locally based, online radio station first signed on last January 17th, and will blow out candles during its monthly fundraiser at Logan Square’s The Whistler, with a free set by Rambos and another secret surprise band.

Think it stops there? Heckfire no! Kind of like getting a birthday present a week late from an out-of-town aunt, CHIRP will rip open more paper on the 20th at Empty Bottle with a full slate of bands including Campfires, Black Math, and Cool Memories. Ticket sales benefit the station. Then head to Schubas on the 26th, for CHIRP’s reading series “The First Time.” A “First Car” theme will get skirted by a literate, musical cast of Robbie Fulks, Josh Caterer, Susan Messing, Erin Shea, James Van Osdol, Matt Spiegel, and Jim DeRogatis.

Finally, a surprise-super-secret-probation blast closes festivities on the 27th at Hideout.
