Few British bands hit the American tour circuit as hard as Frightened Rabbit did following 2008’s impressive The Midnight Organ Fight. Now’s when we find out if it paid off.
Theoretically, you could only run the victim angle for so long, yet Winter Of Mixed Drinks (Fatcat) offers no respite for frontman Scott Hutchison’s lady troubles. When the band first played Empty Bottle a couple years ago — relatively unannounced, relatively anxiety-riddled — a punchy brand of indie rock was all that mattered. Though delightfully less refined than most bands of their ilk, Winter Of Mixed Drinks nonetheless relays Hutchison’s still anxiety-riddled affairs with fitful aplomb.
