I think I wrote a CD review of Crucial Conflict back in my IE days. They were pretty good rappers but never caught on nationally. I think they weren't "gangsta" enough to get major hype, especially back then. Good article.

Wow, I was surprised to see Price of Priesthood in there! I was the original bassist in that band. After that I played with the Wait, while Billy Hyland from Phil 'n the Blanks took my spot in the Priestboys. I was also instrumental (no pun intended) in Heavy Manners getting started. Hugh Murphy from Boulevard was good friends with Shel Lustig, who at the time was a DJ at XRT. Shel and I were talking one day and he mentioned his desire to form a ska/reggae band. One day while I was chatting up the bartender at the back bar at Tut's, I started talking to this guy who I didn't know at the time. He turned out to be Hillel Frankel. He mentioned his desire to start a ska/eggae band. I gave him Shel's number and the rest is Chicago music scene history.

LOL

Wow, great article. I saw the Elvis Brothers and Bohemia in their heyday.
The music scene was fantastic back then. Tuts, Beginnings, COD, There was a real sense of community There's a few you left out: The Kind, Phil N' The Blanks. Suburban guys too like M&R Rush. I'd like to hear what happened to those guys.
