		<description>Hi Cara, Before media ownership rules were relaxed in the 90s, radio stations had to compete with each other so there was actually less choice and variety in formats and styles. Now, ownership provides an incentive for companies to offer variety in programming. Keeping in mind outlets like YouTube, MySpace and heck, American Idol, musicians have a greater chance of breaking out than ever before.  

I work with the national association of broadcasters and it is imperative that local stations have the opportunity to compete with the ever expanding media outlets for advertising dollars. Cities rely on the free local news and information broadcasters provide but current ownership rules are making it hard for them to continue operation.</description>
