Against Me!
Americans Abroad: Live In London
(Fat Wreck Chords)

Gravel-pit-voiced Florida punk rockers write a new song, wrap a foreign-based concert around it.

“Americans Abroad,” which Against Me! have made exclusive to this record, didn’t seem possible for the band when they released their ode to Condoleeza Rice, “From Her Lips To God’s Ears,” on Seaching For A Former Clarity. The brutish, yet nuanced nature of their music lost something made future political essays seem like a bad idea. Yet taking another crack, they made this tale of realizing all Americans are lumped together their live album’s centerpiece — bullseye. Of course, Live In London is still saddled by those cries of “Condoleeza!,” but it’s easily forgotten as this generous offering (17 cuts) gathers steam while culling tracks from Against Me!’s first three albums.
